History of the Diease


  • Achondroplasia, also known as Dwarfism, was discovered in 1994 by Dr. John Wasmuth
  • Achondroplasia is the most common type of dwarfism, in which the child’s arms and legs are short in proportion to body length
  • Described the condition as "congenital rickets" in Dr. Wasmuth's doctoral thesis in 1817
  • The first person to officially classify the defect was the German physician Moritz Romberg whose doctoral thesis in 1817 is considered the classic description of achondroplasia
